I was THINKING of having a little class reunion one night during the next couple of weeks before we are officially 4th graders!  Comment below 1) if you would even be interested and 2) what nights are generally good.

Hope you are all having a great summer!!

Last Blog!

I didn't get a chance to blog yesterday!  I can't believe that school has ended!!!  Thank you so much for your sweet cards, gifts, and words of encouragement.  While I'm excited about my new adventures as a mommy, I just want you to know that I will ALWAYS hold this class near and dear to my heart.  Not just because they are my last class, but because this particular group of kiddos captured my heart from the first day I met them.  Thank you so much for sharing your children with me.

I told the kids yesterday that I will tell you to not to unsubscribe from this blog because we were thinking about having some sort of summer reunion.  I believe having an ice cream night was an idea that was thrown out there!   Also, I'll blog some pictures of Barrett when he's born.  I know the kids will be want to see his little face, but also, you have been such a huge part of this journey with me.  Couldn't leave you hanging. :o)

Have a great summer!  And keep in touch.  My new email is wilson_tutoring@me.com

Yearbook Signing!

We are going to do our 3rd grade yearbook signing on Wednesday!  Just wanted to give you a heads up so everyone would have their yearbooks or signing books.

Important Lunch Information! And an announcement

Starting tomorrow,  the cafeteria will be only serving sack lunches.  Todaywill also be our last day to actually eat in the cafeteria.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday we will be eating in the classroom.  I won't have access to a microwave, so anything that is packed for lunch will need to be eaten as is.  The cafeteria will still be serving sack lunches tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wedneday.

And Thursday we won't be eating lunch because of our early dismissal time at 11:00.

Can't believe this is happening so fast!!!

Also ~ I told the kids today that I'm "retiring."  It's true ~ I'm going to stay home next year to be a mommy.  I couldnt' have asked for a sweeter class as my very last class.  This group of kids has captured and touched my heart in a way I can't put into words.  Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your children with me!

Due Friday

Just a reminder that Dragon Pride Projects and Reading Logs are due on FRIDAY!

Also, I am making the due date for all of my classroom library books Friday as well.  Can't believe things are wrapping up so quickly!

Yearbook and Hat Day Tomorrow!

Below is a letter from Lisa Peipert, our yearbook advisor.  I also wanted to remind you that tomorrow is Hat Day, and our Teacher of the Day has requested that everyone bring a stuffed animal to school that wants to.  :o)

Hello CES Parents,

Our 2010-2011 CES yearbook has officially arrived! If you ordered a copy of this year's full-color book, then you should receive it soon. I hope you will love looking back at all the fun times we've had at Carroll Elementary this year and we want you to know that we really appreciate your support of our school memory book.

If you have not had a chance to order a yearbook, we ordered extras and will be selling them for $25 each. Get your copy now, 'cause once they're gone... they're gone! We can accept cash or checks payable to CES.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I hope you all enjoy the last couple weeks of this school year!

Math Homework

You will probably be needed for the math homework tonight!  We are starting long division, and remembering to to each step each time is HARD WORK!  I remember thinking that long division was the hardest thing I'd ever had to do when I learned it! :o)

We are going to use their homework to keep working on these division steps tomorrow.  If frustration starts to happen ~ take a break!  I am planning on reteaching this tomorrow.  And the next day.  And the next day.  For however long it takes to master it!

Monday Announcements :o)

Last week was the last week for Math Club and Reading Club.  We have all worked so hard, and I am so proud of everyone's progress!

I will be off campus at a meeting tomorrow.  Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Also, Tuesday and Thursday this week are Mavericks Days!  Support our hometeam by wearing Mavericks jerseys and shirts on play off game days!

Thursday, May 12, 2011

Field Day Tomorrow

Don't forget to send in a sack lunch since the cafeteria will not be serving lunches (unless you've pre-ordered.)  I do not have a list this time.

Also - we will not need bathing suits tomorrow!  The temperature seems to be a little chilly to be standing outside dripping wet.  We will still have bounce houses, but no water activities!  One less thing to worry about :o)

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Nurses' Day

Tomorrow is Nurses' Day!  If you would like, your child can wear scrubs or dress like a doctor in order to honor our sweet nurse!

Monday, May 9, 2011

This Week

First, I have been sworn to secrecy about my big news today ... the kids said they wanted to tell you themselves :o)

Make sure you are checking the calendar on DragonSpace.  I have updated all the important dates!  Some of the days have so much information that you can't see it all on the month view, so you may have to click on individual days to make sure you can see everything.  These dates are also listed on the newsletter.

Friday is Field Day!  The cafeteria will not be serving lunch as usual on Friday, so make sure you've got a packed lunch unless you preordered.  (I'm waiting to see if I'm going to get a list of preorders like I did last week.)

Hope you all had a great Mother's Day weekend!

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

Friday

Don't forget that Friday (Discovery Day) everyone will need to bring a lunch except those who have pre-ordered a sack lunch from the cafeteria.  This is the ONLY thing the cafeteria will be serving on Friday.  They will not even be serving snacks.  In addition, the sack lunches are going to be brought to our rooms, so we won't even be traveling to the cafeteria ~ even to use the microwaves.

I have a list of 5 students that have pre-ordered a lunch.  I know a few have these forms have gone home recently for different events, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

Snacks and Tomorrow's Lunch

I've noticed that a few snacks containing peanut and peanut butter have been sneaking in lately.  I've been letting those who bring a "peanut snack" for school eat their snack away from the rest of the kiddos, but I'm not going to be able to do that anymore.  I told the kids about it this morning, but we cannot have peanuts or anything containing peanuts in the classroom (even if they are staying away from the peanut allergies.)

Tomorrow's Lunch!  You did not have to preorder a lunch for tomorrow.  The cafeteria will be serving lunch as usual.  But we will be eating outside tomorrow (just like they would have on the Oregon Trail!), so it might be easier to pack something that doesn't have to be microwaved.  (That being said, I know this is a little last minute.  So if all you have is something that has to be microwaved ~ no big deal! We can microwave what we need :o))

Monday, May 2, 2011

This Week

OREGON TRAIL DAY is Wednesday: Come to school dressed like a pioneer (if you want to!), and we will experience the Oregon Trail at CES!

DISCOVERY DAY is FRIDAY. (I wrote Wednesday in the Newsletter ~ it is FRIDAY!)  Although we will not be having parent volunteers this year, don’t forget everyone who did not preorder from the cafeteria will need to send in a sack lunch!

Friday, April 29, 2011

Oregon Trail Day

We are having so much fun learning about the Oregon Trail!  I love watching how excited they are each day when we talk about it.

On Oregon Trail Day (Wednesday) we are going to make butter in class.  I was wondering if anyone would volunteer to send in some heavy whipping cream for us?  I have lots of saltine crackers and the rest of the supplies, but we need some whipping cream to actually make the butter.  Email me if that's something you could help out with!  I think that making the butter is actually the MOST fun of the day!

Daily Geography

I am sending these home with everyone in their take home folders today.  We started writing in complete sentences to answer these questions as a part of their grammar grade.  Since this was a new way of answering, I spent a long time checking these answers as a class. (Usually, I do this pretty quick!)  In addition, I graded the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday answers before we did Thursday and Friday so the kids could see what  kind of mistakes they were making (if any!) and fix it before we finished the rest of the week.

Most of the grammar grades were great!  However, there were quite a few that shocked me!  Especially knowing how much time we spent going over the answers together ~ I write each answer down as we go and answer questions concerning "What if I wrote this?"  I wanted to give you plenty of time to help get these corrected if needed!

Like I said ~ most of the grades were pretty good!  But I'm going to go ahead and send all of them home so that you don't have to wonder about it! :o)  We'll be using sentences on our Geography as a part of the grammar grade for the rest of the year (as well as spelling words correctly that are copied from the map/question and proper nouns!)

Have a great weekend!

Hat Day Tomorrow

In celebration of the Royal Wedding, we are having hat day tomorrow!  I believe there is even a contest for the most creative hat :o)  I just happen to have a tiara in my closet here, so I'm going to be the Kate Middleton of the future with my little baby bump.  The kids don't have to go with a Royal Theme, they can just wear their craziest hat!

See everyone in the morning! (If I can tear myself away from the wedding coverage in the morning!)

Testing Reminders :o)

Get plenty of sleep!
Eat a good breakfast!
Don't forget to bring a jacket in case the classroom is cold, a few good books, and a snack.

They have been working so hard all year, and they are more than ready to take this test!  Remember, we are having a closed campus for the rest of the week.

See everyone bright and early tomorrow!

Things to Know for Next Week

1) Our campus will be closed to visitors Tuesday - Friday due to testing that will be happening throughout the building.  (Including our own on Tuesday and Wednesday!)

2) The temperature in our room has been very unpredictable.  Keeping a light jacket in the classroom will be helpful!

3) BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS! The only thing we are allowed to do when the test is finished is read.  Make sure your child has at least one good book to read after the test.  (There are books in our classroom library, but the kids will not be able to walk across the room to check out any books from me while we are still testing).

4) SNACKS!  We will break for a quick snack during the day.  (Just like our normal school days.)

5) Your children have been working so hard!  They are going to do great.  They've started to express a little bit of fear about the test next week.  I think it's more of a fear of the unknown.  I assured them that they are all ready for this test, and told them that it's MY job to make sure they're ready.  One less thing for them to have to think about! :o)  You can help my making sure they get plenty of sleep in the nights leading up to the test.

6) We have been using this website to review our math in class: http://perspective.pearsonaccess.com/perspective/appmanager/tx/family
I told the kids that I would send this home to you because many of them wanted to use it over the weekend! (Especially those who have been absent).  I do have one favor though: If you do use the website this weekend, stick with the math review.  We are going to do the reading review in class using laptops on Monday!

Have a great weekend!

Library Books!

We just learned that the library has to be completely packed up by Monday due to continuing construction.  In order for Ms. Campbell to take an accurate inventory, we are asking that ALL library books be returned by Friday!

On another note, I accidently gave the kids their cursive homework for tomorrow night.  Some of them decided they wanted to do it tonight so they don't have homework tomorrow.  Some decided that they were just going to keep it and do it tomorrow night.  Either way is fine with me :o)

Carroll ISD and the USO

CARROLL ISD and The USO!

Dear CES Parents:

Carroll ISD has teamed with the USO to help support our troops here at DFW airport. Approximately 200 servicemen and women go through our airport daily as they are being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Before boarding their planes, they are given an opportunity to visit a USO room full of supplies that they will need once they reach their destination. Carroll ISD is collecting all of the items provided by the USO to help stock this room; each school is focusing on certain items.

Here at CES we will be collecting travel/snack-size nuts: peanuts, or mixed nuts as well as travel-size baby wipes. It is very important to note the size as available packing space for the items is an issue!

When our USO representative came to our school and heard which items we were assigned, she stressed the importance of the items and stated that servicemen and women are encouraged to take as many of them as they would like. The nuts provide an excellent source of protein when in the field and the baby wipes cannot be used enough in the heat of the desert when bathing is not always a possibility!

Please help us shower the USO and our servicemen and women with kindness and compassion during our supply drive which will run now through Friday, April 29th! Collection boxes can be found in the counseling office as well as in front of the school library.

Thank you in advance for your support!

From Ms. Wagnon

Dear Parents,

I apologize for sending this to you via email however, our copier is down and I wanted to be certain that you received this information today.

At 9:00 a.m. we evacuated the building due to the fact that smoke was detected in the cafeteria. I am so proud of our students and staff; we were out of the building in less than two minutes. The smoke smell was caused by the crew welding outside the cafeteria area. The smell got into the ventilation system. Our contractor assured me that as a practice, whenever welding is occurring on site, a second worker stands nearby with a fire extinguisher just in case it is ever needed. Emergency vehicles did respond and the children were evacuated. AT 9:30 a.m. the fire department gave us clearance and the children returned safely back to their classrooms. The fire department was very complimentary of our staff and students.

Please know that safety is always my number one priority.

Thank you for your continued support as we grow our beautiful new building. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Stacy S. Wagnon

Monday and Tutoring Pick Up

Monday, April 4th, we are going to have a closed campus due to some testing that will be happening in the building.

Also, we are still keeping the pick-up place for tutoring in the back of the building, but when you pull in the back driveway keep driving as far as you can before you stop.  Since we told you to stop at the 3rd grade doors, there has been come traffic and congestion backed up onto Continental.  When I walk the kids outside, I will walk them to wherever you are in line!  Thanks so much!

Dismissal

If you are picking your child up after schoool and they are a car rider, please remember to use the signs with your child's name on it in your car.  We have some new teachers helping with pick up after school, and they don't recognize you as easily as the car-rider vetarans do!  This will help everyone to be able to leave faster and get home!  Thanks :o)

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Wow!

What a great first day back!  I feel so loved! :o)

Math Club will continue tomorrow and I will pick up Reading Club starting on Tuesday.  There shouldn't be any more changes about Clubs unless you hear from me!  Starting tomorrow, please pick your child up from tutoring in the back of the building.  (Regular dismissal is still the same as it has been the past couple of days.)  We are adjusting because of the consruction.

Have a great day!

Email and Phone System

Beginning Friday, March 11th at 4:00 p.m., Carroll ISD's email system will be shut down so that upgrades can be made to our system.  Any email we  receive during this outage will bounce back to the sender.  If you need to send me an email, please make sure I receive it prior to 4:00 on 3/11 or that you resend it after school resumes on 3/21 at 8:00.

2 Posts Today!

Just wanted you to know that this week's newsletter is on my DragonSpace.  I also uploaded this week's Dragon Pride Poster in the documents section.

Study Island

I just got online to check the progress of the Study Island assignments, and there are several who have not completed the assignments for the past two weeks.  The sub today is going to tell everyone to make sure they get tonight's assignment done, which I've already activated online, but I need your help in making sure the past assignments are completed as well.  This is important review material for them!  Thanks for your help.

Reading Logs

Don't forget! Dragon Pride Projects, Dragon Pride Reading Logs, and Six Flags Reading Logs are due tomorrow. Mrs. Neathery is inputting all of the information for Dragon Pride points and Six Flags tickets.

Study Island

I just checked the Study Island assignment for tonight and saw that only a few had completed it.  (There are still some missing assignments from Monday and last week as well.)  I have been talking to the sub, but I forgot to tell her to remind the kids.  I will tell her to remind them to do this!  And if they have extra time in class, they can do it then too!

I know that this slipped through the cracks due to by absence, and I appreciate you all so much for your patience and understanding.  So if you could help your kiddos remember to do this, that would be great!  Reviewing these math skills continuously helps them to remember everything that we have learned this year!

This Week

Hey just wanted you to know that I will be out for the rest of the week. If there is anything specific that you need me to tell the sub, please let me know and I will get that information to her. I will update you on Monday!

Study Island is up and ready to go for last night's homework assignment, and I will have tomorrow's assignment ready before the kids get home from school.

Hope you're having a great wee and I will see you soon!

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

This Week

I had to leave school suddenly  yesterday afternoon due to a family situation.  I will be out the rest of the week, but I will be back on Monday.  I am in contact with the substitute that will be in the class for the rest of the week, but I wanted you to know that I will not be there.

They Study Island assignment for tonight ready to go.

Thank you for your understanding.  Everything is ok, and I will be back next week.

Valentine's Day

I didn't have my act together enough this week to have thank you cards for each of you.  Thank you so much for all of the cards, candies, and sweet Valentine's Day gifts.  I feel very loved!

Also, we have Study Island homework tonight and the Solar System Test tomorrow!

Have a great Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day

Don't forget to bring your Valentines on Monday for our party!  Also, remember that Ms. Wagnon has asked that any Valentines that need to be delivered to other classrooms or teachers need to be delivered BEFORE school starts.  I'm not going to be able to send the kids around the school once the day has started.    So if you have any extra Valentines, plan on being here early!

Jump Rope for Heart

Jump Rope for Heart will be held Mon - Wed during normal PE times. (Our normal PE day next week is Wednesday).  Also Wednesday will be the last day for returning donation envelopes. If you are registered online, you will need to print a gift history report and return that in the envelope.

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Study Island

I just activiated the Study Island assignment that we were supposed to do last night.  I told the kids today just to do this whenever they have time.  If this could be done by Monday, that would be great!  Thanks so much!

Monday, February 7, 2011

This Week!

Wow, what a week! We are glad to be back. Below is some information about homework assignments, make-up test, and our Valentine's Party:

1. Homework: Study Island - Model Multiplication Facts (If your child has already completed this assignment, then have them practice any past Study Island assignment that he or she needs to review.)

2. We are going to review for the Multiplication Unit Test today. The Multiplication Unit Test will be tomorrow.

3. This is Volunteer Appreciation Week! Please come by the workroom sometime this week so that we can serve and honor you for all that you have done!

4. Students need to make and bring a Valentine's container by Monday, February 14th.

5. Valentine's Day Party: Monday, February 14th from 1:30 - 2:15 P.M.

6. Students will need to pass out all Valentines for the teachers through out the building and fellow students in other classes before school. We will not be using class time to pass out Valentines for students and teachers not in our classroom.

7.  We will be using the same spelling words for this week's test that we started last week!  Tonight everyone has their normal Monday homework, even if they already did it last week. This will help them study for the test on Friday!

Thursday, February 3, 2011

Brrrrrrr!!!!!!!

Hope you are all staying warm and cozy! Looks like I will you all on Monday! Have a great weekend :o)

Study Island and DragonSpace

Just wanted to remind you that we will be doing Study Island for homework on Monday and Wednesday this week.  Today's assignment is already loaded and ready to go!

I've heard a few of the kids telling me that you are having a hard time getting on DragonSpace.  There are three ways you can do this:
1) Click on the DragonSpace link to the right of your screen.
2) Go to the CES Webpage and click on the link on listed there.
3) Bookmark the link:  dragonspace.southlakecarroll.edu/webPages

Once you're there, you can click on Documents (for newsletters and fliers) or Calendar (for test infomation and upcoming events) or any other sections that you need.  Hope this helps!

Math Website

As you may have noticed, the page numbers for the math textbook cannot be found on the DragonSpace calendar!  And I for some reason have had a hard time finding those for you again ... I should have written them down!  Don't worry about it though ~ we do not NEED to use those practice problems in the book.

Also, we used the website below during math today to practice 2 digit times 1 digit multplication.  We had so much fun!  And I promised I would send the website home for them to use!

Math

We are completing another Study Island assignment tonight for homework.  You can count on this homework every Monday and Wednesday until you hear something different from me!

Also, we are  having a multiplication test on Tuesday.  You can find the objectives we have been working on for this test as well as textbook pages you can use at home to help make practice problems in the calendar section of my DragonSpace.  (Remember, there is a link to the right on this blog page that you can click to take you to the DragonSpace site.)   If you click on Math Test on Tuesday's date you will see all of the information that you need to know!

One big thing that I am noticing is that we are still struggling with our facts!  I have flash cards in class that we are using as well as our fact quizzes and surprise quizzes.  Knowing these facts is going to make their math work so much easier!

From the Nurse

CARROLL INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISCTRCT HEALTH SERVICES

We have learned that there has been a case of strep throat in your child’s class. Symptoms of strep throat include sore throat and varying degrees of tonsil swelling, with or without white pustules, usually (not always) accompanied by fever and redness.

If your child complains or shows signs of the symptoms, you should contact your family physician.

Children treated for strep throat are generally presumed to be non-contagious 24 hours after antibiotic therapy has begun.

iPad Curriculum

I stumbled upon this today.  I haven't looked at it very closely yet, but it looked like some great tools that you could use at home if you have an iPhone, iPad, or any device in which you can use the Apple App Store.  Check out http://www.ipadcurriculum.com/ to see if there are any programs that you could be using at home!  The best ones I saw listed were some math games and stories.  Just passing it along :o)

Don't forget to check Dragon Space for the newsletter and calendary updates!

Next Week

Next week we have a Science Test on Tuesday, a Social Studies Test on Thursday (we are making review sheets in class!), and we will be working on our 3 and 6 Multiplication Facts in Math.   All of these are going to be listed on the newsletter on Monday, but I thought I would go ahead and pass this information along in case you want to get a head start this weekend.  (i.e. multiplication facts!)

Have a good weekend!

Google Earth

We were talking about how satellites take pictures of our Earth from space today in Social Studies.  I pulled up  some images on Google Earth so they could see what these pictures really look lilke.  Tomorrow we're going to look at pictures of the school!

I just wanted to give you a heads up just in case you were being asked to do this tonight at home. I did not tell them that this was something that they needed to do, but they were REALLY excited about the website!

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Multiplication Facts

Make sure you are studying our multiplication facts at home!  We will continue doing our math facts quizzes on Thursdays as well as our "pop quizzes" over the facts we are working on in school.  We are not, however, memorizing these facts in class.  So far we have done 2s, 4s, 5s and 10s.  Memorizing these facts will just make math during the rest of the year SO MUCH easier!

Also, I have a CD that has cute songs to help memorize these facts.  If  you think this is something that will help (although YOU will probably get these songs stuck in your head too!) just send a blank CD to school and I will burn a copy.  I'm going to start playing it during math time as well so the kids can hear it during the day.

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

DragonSpace

Check DragonSpace for any updated calendar information.  (Since the break, I really can't remember the last calendar update I gave you!)

Also, Reading Club (Tuesdays) and Math Club (Thursdays) are starting THIS week!  If you did not see the pink letters I sent home before the break, check the Take Home folder.

Welcome Back!

Wow!  Today was exhausting.  My days were much slower during the Holiday Break :o)  It was good to see everybody's faces this morning.

The newsletter is posted on my DragonSpace for this week. Hope to see each of YOUR faces soon!
